Darren Connors

Darren Connors is a self-taught Maine artist, born in 1964 in Brunswick, and currently lives in St. Francis.  He is widely regarded as one of today’s most exciting contemporary Maine artists.  Connors’ work shows his talent for capturing the essence of his subject through his handling of light and definition, bringing a feeling to his work that transcends the viewer.  While obviously inspired by the spirit and character of his native state, his work ultimately deals with universal themes that enchant and inspire.

Connors talent started with a fascination of drawing cars at a young age.  As his skill developed, pen & ink drawings led to paintings of country settings.  At fourteen, Darren moved to “The County,” where he was inspired by the Northern Maine landscape.  It became the dominant subject of his art, capturing the beauty and power of Maine landscapes.

Connors work rose from imaginative and primarily primitive to well received impressionist-like compositions.  His work is currently collected by those who have faithfully followed his rise from a modest, young painter to a disciplined, mature artist of colorful Maine scenes in all seasons.

Connors is also known for painting murals in homes and businesses and was featured in the magazine, “Memories of Maine.”  He has shown his work throughout Maine in assorted small venues.  A book of his artwork was created titled,  The Art of Darren Connors, published by Mainely Books.  His preferred mediums are oils and acrylics.  Now many of his golf course collections, as well as landscapes, are on display in our Gallery at Mainely Frames & Gallery, 541 Congress St., Portland, Maine.
