John Fanning is a native of Maine. After military service, he served as a police officer in Portland.. John left Portland in 1983 and returned to school. He has been employed in the . financial services industry ever since. In January of2006, John returned to Portland from New York and currently works as an independent financial planner. While in the military, John developed an interest in photography which continued through his years on the police department and, later, while he worked in New York. He was a late convert to digital photography, but regrets that he waited as long as he did. Digital photography has allowed John to develop his own style of creating natural images of women that cross the line from personal photography to artistic expression. Using high definition digital cameras, Photoshop, and various types of paper allows John to give his finished work an interesting character that sometimes resembles an oil painting or a watercolor.
